Urge Congress to Limit the President’s Power to Start a Nuclear War

Posted on 02. Nov, 2017 by in Action Alerts

Concern over President Trump’s veiled threats against North Korea has the staff of FAN looking to advocate for change in our current laws. The Action Alert Digest from the Sisters of St. Francis in Clinton, Iowa contains this action alert which we bring to your attention.

Did you know that President Donald Trump – like every president for decades – has sole authority to launch a US nuclear attack? And no one has the authority to stop such a launch.

The Union of Concerned Scientists asks us to urge our lawmakers to cosponsor the “Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act,” which would prohibit the president from launching a nuclear first strike without a declaration of war from Congress.

FAN encourages our members to write to your elected officials. No president should have absolute authority to launch nuclear weapons.
