Franciscans on Peace

Francis lived in a world torn apart by violence, war, brutality and crusades. He saw Jesus Christ as a messenger of peace, and Francis himself proclaimed this message through his preaching and example. In everything he did and said, Francis sought to create peace, within human hearts, families, cities, and nations. Francis was a practical agent of reconciliation. In several instances, he actively negotiated between warring parties.

Our world too is torn apart in many places by violence and war. In our day, we foster peace in our local neighborhoods afflicted by gang violence. We pray, walk, preach, and advocate for peace. We have individual friars who in a variety of ways have actively witnessed for peace.
